 | 2000/2001: BELIEVE by Clarence Lee 20th JCRC DOS The IHG theme during IHG 2000/01 was Believe. As a sportsman myself, I realized how important belief in oneself is and the difference it can make to one's sporting performance. In the bigger scheme of things, Team Shearites must also believe in each other, be it players, captains, supporters or otherwise, for the concept of Team Sheares to work out. Thus, our slogan during IHG 2000/01 was “Live the Dream - Believe”, the dream being the vision that I had for Team Sheares, of outnumbering other halls in terms of crowd support, cheering and spirit. I am glad that successive DOSes have also expanded on what it means to be Team Sheares, with themes like Fire, igniSHion, Soar, As One, Strength and Desire. These themes have certainly added more dimensions and colour to what it means to be Team Sheares and I thank them for it. | | | 2001/2002: FIRE by Joseph Oh 21st JCRC DOS Initially I choose “Fire” as the theme for my year’s IHG. The reason was to ignite the passion in our residents for the game, to motivate our sportsmen to continue to strive in their achievement for sporting excellence. After sharing this with my SMB members, they actually came up with an extension “Fire, the Passion, the Blaze, the Desire”. I thought it really embodied the type of mentality we wanted our sportsmen to have, the passion in sports, the burning desire to do better and excel. And so, that was how “Fire, the Passion, the Blaze, the Desire” came about. | | | 2002/2003: IGNISHION by Chen Xiao Huan 22nd JCRC DOS igniSHion We hope that IHG would be an event to ignite Shearites’ passion for sports excellence, as well as the hall. With a little bit of twist in the spelling (ignition -> igniSHion), Shearites could identify themselves more with this IHG theme. | | | 2003/2004: SOAR.. BEYOND LIMITS by Egon Loh 23rd JCRC DOS SOAR.. beyond limits.. I cannot remember the reasons of choosing it, but I guess the meaning is self-explanatory. | | | 2004/2005: ABOYE. BEYOND.ONE by Edwin Liu 24th JCRC DOS “Above, Beyond as One” It literally translate into “Above others in spirits, Beyond our limits, As one united SHEARES.” | | | 2005/2006: SHEARESTRENGTH by Rubin Zhong 25th JCRC DOS IHG theme during my tenure is “ShearestrengtH”. I felt that over the years, we have adopted themes that seek to take Team Sheares to somewhere that we’ve never reached before. It was really time to get back to basics and strengthen ourselves before we take flight. The word “Strength” has added meaning as it is a word that starts with an “S” and ends with a “H”. “ShearestrengtH” further connotes “sheer strength” and it is hoped that Team Sheares would summon all the strength to overcome adversity. And they did. | | | 2006/2007: DESIRE by Lawrence Lee 26th JCRC DOS The reason I chose the theme "DESIRE" was because i personally feel that this is the most fundamental character and spirit a sports person should possess. To excel in a sport, i feel that one should have the DESIRE to train hard and give his/her utmost best in a game. My personal vision on this theme is for every single Team Shearite to develop THE "DESIRE" to contribute to TEAM SHEARES on or off the court. DESIRE to be 1 TEAM SHEARES DESIRE to Train DESIRE to Win DESIRE to REACH THE HIGHEST. | | | 2007/2008: SPIRIT by Darren Chua 27th JCRC DOS A sportsperson has a core that guides him to personal betterment, and I feel that a sportsperson with a good core does not only improve his physical ability through time, but his or her mental, heart and soul as well. I want SPIRIT to be the core for our Hall this year to act as a beacon to guide all our Shearites, be it those playing on the field or those who turn up to support our sports events. My vision for this year is to have Sheares aglow with SPIRIT, a SPIRIT we can busk in with pride, as we all strive on to individual and collective betterment. Team SPIRIT Fight SPIRIT Sportsmanship SPIRIT With SPIRIT as our core, let it be shown to all. Together, we hold in our hearts the true Sheares SPIRIT. | |
