For Shearites Out There!

April 18th, 2009

The Last Post.

Doesn’t it feel like just yesterday when it was still the first day of Semester 1? The pages of the calendar turned quickly, and the past year had quietly slipped us by. It had surely been an exciting year; one filled with laugh-out-loud moments and everlasting memories. But like always, the fun has to come to an end eventually.

So, this is it, Shearites, the last SHout update from the humble people of  Hall-Pub 08/09!

A big Thank You for being such great SHout-ers!

ALL THE BEST for the finals, mug hard and DARE TO REACH THE HIGHEST!!

Senior’s Farewell Dinner: Superheroes

by Vincent

There was a time long ago, when everything we watched on television was taken to be real. Every superhero idolized. On the night of 31st March 2009, Sheares Link brought us back to that time in our very own Senior’s Farewell Dinner aptly themed Superheroes.

It was the last formal dinner of the academic year and all the year 3 and 4 seniors were required to dress up as superheroes as they make their grand entrance into the comm. hall. The senior Acers were dressed as soldiers in their own rendition of Band of Brothers. Hot girls in army uniform, anyone?

Dance Uncensored!

written by Anushka,

During the last weekend of March, many of us Shearites headed down to the UCC to watch our dancers put up their best performance at Dance Uncensored 2009. It took place in an auditorium filled with an audience cheering to a performance which got the blood in our veins pumping to the beat of some really good music.

The six halls of residence sent in their best dancers to prove their worth. The evening kicked off with a bang, with each hall’s dancers coming on stage, oozing confidence, grooving to great tunes and of course, with utmost grace and poise. As the music played, costumes shimmied in the glow of the stage lights, and dancers floated across the stage.

If the evening started with a bang, then it ended with an even bigger one, leaving the audience feeling like they had a most enjoyable evening, spent worthwhile on A grade dance performances. All those of us who attended had had a wonderful time and only wished we could have watched an encore of the entire Dance Uncensored 2009.

For graduating seniors, it was their last DU, and in all probability, even their last dance performance before the world of work beckoned. As the audience left the theatre and the lights dimmed in the auditorium, melodies floated in the air, creating an atmosphere that one and all will reflect on and think of as a cathartic moment for dancers and audience alike. And as the dancers were praised by one another and the audience for a job well done, I think the only regret they must have had, was to be unable to watch their fabulous selves on stage.
