Sheares Hall : SHout

For Shearites Out There!

More on “Say Sheares : Night Cycling”

written by Vk (Sheares Link 0809),

In the stillness of Halloween night, a sea of orange streamed down from Sheares Hall, conquering the Central Business District and the eastern parts of Singapore. The force was unstoppable; not even the rain nor thunderstorm could wipe it out. Heard so much about ‘Say SHeares: Lights, Camera, Action’ but unfortunately missed the chance to be there? Here’s a lowdown on the excitement on 31 Oct.

Have you ever tried stuffing marshmallows into your mouth? Not easy, I must say. Our first games station at Seah Im Food Centre called for the person from each team with the biggest… something. Having a huge mouth would certainly be an advantage. But the key to stuffing the most number of marshmallows into your mouth is to shed your inhibitions and go all out to the state of un-glamness. So kudos to our brave marshmallow-stuffers. Let’s hope they won’t be turned off by the sight of marshmallows the next time they see it.

Food would definitely be the highlight of the night. Anybody would perk up at the sound of supper at Lao Pa Sat. Stingray, satay, hokkien mee, hotplate toufu… you name it. As the cyclists settled down for food, friends and rest, a certain red and blue character appeared from the distance. Who could that be? Could it be…

…Spiderman??!!

The guest appearance of our very enthu ex-Shearite (Block A, to be exact) with his ostentatious albeit tight Halloween costume, complete with the mask definitely added an element of surprise to the night.

We proceeded to the next games station at Raffles Place with a round of charades. Discovery of the night: Betty Boop is apparently a phantom cartoon character amongst Shearites. -_-

What lies beyond

by Vincent,

There is a path that we travel everyday. It is like the black hole; nothing is spared. Not even our friendly, bluey neighbor can escape from the wrath of this path. No one knows the fate that awaits us at the end of this short 30 second walk up the slope.

No One.

This path is the very same one that we take en route to the bus stop. This path adds on to the stress of working towards a decent CAP; it intensifies the daily drama that we, as Shearites face in our Hall of Orange. It is the essential definition of insanity, as it offers NO CLUE of what can possibly be going on at the bus stop, just a corner away.

VC: Oh! The Places You’ll Go

by Vincent

It was a bright and cheerful Sunday morning as the children from Ang Mo Kio Family Service Centre stepped into Sheares Hall for VC’s first official event of the academic year. Aptly titled “Oh! The Places You’ll Go”, the half day camp promised to be a fun and exciting experience for both children and Shearite alike.

The children were divided into 4 groups and it did not take them long to warm up to the friendly Shearites who volunteered to be OGL’s for each of the groups.

Our first game of the day was the OGL Fashion Parade! An OGL from each group was selected and turned into life sized Barbie dolls as the children had fun dressing up their respective OGL, transforming them into robots and warriors. Can you guess who this warrior is?

Night Cycling 08/09

Night Cycling has always been one of the more exciting events of Sheares Hall.

You cross your fingers hoping that a cute guy or girl will ask you to be his/her partner or that maybe, just maybe, that eye candy you’ve been ogling at for months might just be placed in your detail. But mostly, it’s just anticipating the inevitable fun that comes when cycling with a bunch of Shearites, at night and away from home ground where there’s no RF to tell you to tone it down. And of course, who can forget the occasional pit stops where we can fill our tummies with Singapore’s best supper offerings!

Last Friday started off with just that amount of excitement. The MPSH was literally a sea of orange with Shearites everywhere as they searched for their detail ICs and filled up indemnity forms at the last minute. It took a looooong while before everyone finally settled down and Sheares Link could start their safety briefing.

But even after that it still wasn’t time to go. For details like mine, (Detail 7) we were to set off much much much later so meanwhile we simply laid back in the air-conditioned MPSH, watching The Zohan and gulping down FREE strawberry Yogurt drink.

Right when the credits started to roll our detail IC signaled to us; it was finally time to set off!!!!! After goofing around while the first-time tandem cyclists attempted to balance themselves, we started on our long long journey.

First stop was Seah Im where we played the super ugly and unglam game of stuffing ourselves with marshmallows. It was a waste of good food that we would have been happy to eat but hey, watching Block C Val drooling, with overloaded hamster cheeks, was well worth my hunger pangs. (:
