FORUM.

It’s crunch time at NUS. You need your regular fix of gossip to survive but you’re chained to your desk. You can barely spare 5 seconds to say ‘hello’ and grin at your neighbour in the toilet. How can you squeeze out 5 hours to snoop and slander with your partner-in-crime?

You’re in luck. Our dear Director of Media and his team have somehow heard your prayers and worked a miracle for you! The answer to your prayer: SHeares Forum. If you’re reading this and haven’t yet seen it, you must have a really narrow vision.

Okay now, slowly and dramatically move your eyes to the top right corner of this page. Do you see it? People are rocking the forum already, laggard!

So now you know why your neighbour from across you, who barely moves an inch from his laptop, is more in the loop than you are. But it’s not too late, less than 5 seconds is all the time you need to register and start posting! Of course, you’re gonna have to start out a freshie, even if you’re a year 4.5, and slowly get promoted to a full-fledged Shearite with every post you make.

Still not convinced?

If you have so many complaints about the hall or hall events that even your hamster has its hiding place when you approach, there’s always someone in the JCRC section who will listen and rectify the situation. And while you do that, you can save time by concurrently webcasting.

So…go and get creative!

HAC Pool Tournament – Inter Block Competiiton

written by Guest Writer
“The Rion King” (HAC Chairperson),

Only a few days after an invigorating but extremely wearisome Buaya Week, the Inter-Block HAC Pool Competition was held on Wednesday, 22nd Oct. With the much needed help from all the block committees, HAC was grateful to have 3 representatives from each block to participate in the competition.

The 9-ball qualifiers knocked out last year’s champions (Beekers) and left 2 blocks standing, A & D. In the finals, with 20-odd supporters from either block, it was the first time that the E-shack was so sardine-packed since the night before, during the individual playoffs.

Lingfeng (Deeblocker) commenced his match with a breathtaking break shot, a high-strung “Yaaaay!” and outstretched arms, welcoming delightful cheers from the crowd. His inning ceased only after 4 strikes, compelling Wang Gang to soar and unleash his “Hong Shan 38 strikes of the Praying Mantis”. But he only scored 1 ball.

Complacency soon led to Lingfeng’s downfall as he kept miscuing, shrouding himself in an aura of irrevocable “suayness” till the end, while Wang Gang consistently popped in one or two at each inning, ensuing in his victory over a dejected Lingfeng. The ending was simply “Titanic”, and a multitude of tears were shed as both participants shook hands, reminiscing memories of their final match in the 2004 U-21 Jiangsu 8-ball Competition. 1-0 to Block A.

Jason (Acer) began the second round with a bang, notching two solid balls in the opening break. He was up against Yixiong, who was keenly vying for a win to force a tiebreaker. In a nutshell, the balls were dexterously removed from the table by both players, leaving an isolated black no.8 with the advantage to Jason. Dramatically, under heavy crowd pressure, either side missed shots from positions where, with their usual deft touches, they could be blindfolded and still score with ease.

HAC Pool Tournament

written by Vincent,

It was a week long of non-stop pool action as HAC held their annual pool tournament last week. Aptly titled “Cue Them All”, Shearites were treated to some heart pumping and nerve wrecking competitive games of pool, as we saw some of Sheares Hall’s best strut their stuff.

The top 8 shoot-out saw Ling Feng (Dee-blocker) beating Wang Gang (Acer). C-Towner Swee Foo beat Eeker Jun Lin in a remarkable come back, chasing the game from 4 balls behind to pot the black in spectacular fashion. Next was a clash of Beekers with Titan Lee prevailing over Nic Choy with a comfortable margin. Fellow Acers Jason and Ashwin were also pitted against one another in what was a very close game with Jason emerging victorious from the rack. The Acers were determined to acquire the singles title as well, after winning the inter-block title a day before.
