The Visual Identity of Sheares

The future looks bright for Sheares Hall, especially in terms of colour. The ‘orange fever’ might not have caught on to those who left Sheares before 2000 as orange was only chosen as the hall colour for Inter Hall Games (IHG) 2000/2001 by 20th JCRC Director of Sports, Clarence Lee Chun Wei.

Before Clarence’s decision, Sheares’ appearance at IHG alternated between grey and maroon, whereas other halls had their standardised colours (Eusoff in yellow, Raffles in green, Kent Ridge in blue etc). He saw a hall lacking in fighting spirit and solidarity, hence he envisioned a hall united under a common colour, bound by a common theme that is Team Sheares. “The easiest choice would have been red, as it reflects the colour of our crest,” he remarked. “But I decided on the radical Orange as I feel that it will outshine all the other halls on the fields and courts and also it will be symbolic of our soon-to-be-found hall spirit and vibrancy”  Read more...
