For the benefit of those who were unable to attend the forum on the hall fee increase, here is a report based on the Master’s presentation and answers given by the SCRC to questions raised by Shearites in the forum.

So what is the rationale for the hostel fee increase?

The increase in fees is necessary due to the increase in cyclical maintenance and repair costs (e.g. repainting of walls, changing time locks on door mechanisms). The percentage increase was not randomly derived but instead stipulated based on the projections of increasing costs.  Read more...

It’s official!

The circular that was sent out to all students have indicated that the hostel fees will be increased, effective from AY 2008 – 2009. The new fees are applicable to all students staying in hostel accommodation ‐ existing as well as new students. For every week, instead of being charged $60, every individual will be charged $75 for Sheares Hall.

That means an increment of $255 for the first semester and $240 for the second semester.
