VC: Yesterday Once Again…

Written by Vincent Choong

Most of us will probably spend a Friday night mugging partying to the break of dawn and waking up at noon the following day. Well, not this bunch of Shearites. Not the Sheares Voluntary Corps members and a bunch of enthusiastic Shearite volunteers who spent their Saturday morning making the day of another person better.

HAC Pool Competition

Written by Part-time writer Christy

It’s the POOL WARS! After (what I heard was) crazy marketing antics of two overgrown kids thrashing around with “light sabers” in the comm hall, the blocks gathered to cheer and support their teams in the E-shack.

Good Luck Concert & IHG Captains’ Treat!

Written by Choong Jia Xin

Good Luck Concert and IHG Captain’s Supper has definitely been splendid for all Shearites on Thursday night! Once again the collaboration between Cultural Management Board (CMB) and Sports Management Board (SMB) was remarkable in organizing this event. The theme “Across the Universe” was clearly seen by the efforts undertaken by the CMB to decorate the entire MPSH with paper cut-outs of aliens, stars and moons.

The night started with Natalie and Gughan as emcees for the evening and the atmosphere was quickly hyped up by the first performance by Sheares Dance – which was totally phenomenal! Both seniors and freshmen groups had electrifying performances with an interesting line-up of songs like Sorry, sorry by Super Junior and Stuttering by Mario.

Mid-Autumn Festival (MAF) Celebrations with Kent Ridge Hall

Written by Athena Foo

Hearing recounts from the seniors about the previous MAF celebrations Sheares had with Kent Ridge, many of us freshies were curious as to what to expect on Wednesday night for our yearly mid-autumn festivities with our neighbour. This year, Sheares Hall played host to the annual MAF with KR and it appears, from all 5 blocks, that any rivalry between the halls dispelled for the night as everyone enjoyed new company.

Malaysian Night 09

by Vincent Choong

Malaysian Night, an annual event organized by the freshie Malaysians of Sheares Hall, is a mini gathering cum get-to-know session for all Shearites, Malaysians and non-Malaysians alike. This year, Malaysian Night was held on the 9th of October at the MPSH.

It was a night of fun and laughter as the event kicked off with a game of charades with a theme of everything Malaysian. Here Yeong Luen does his best impersonation of Tunku Abdul Rahman shouting merdeka!

Block Mid-Autumn Festival (MAF) festivities!

(Sub-editor’s note: Block B did not have their own Block MAF celebrations.)

Written by Melissa Chue and Sasha Cyriac

Mooncakes and lanterns, all enjoyed under the glow of the full moon – yes, the annual Mid-Autumn Festival, or MAF, is back again and so are the festivities. Every year, each block would gather together to commemorate this special occasion and this year was no exception, with both seniors and freshmen gathering on their respective rooftops to celebrate MAF in their own ways.

Just like the cultures of the various blocks are unique in their own right, the same goes for the programs planned by none other than the respective block committees. At Block C, Block MAF was an opportunity for block mates to get together and chill out for the night. Nestled comfortably in their newly decorated rooftop, the C-towners enjoyed performances put up by their block mates while getting to know a few new Shearites who had just moved into Hall.
